The Cheetahs welcome the Western Force to Bloemfontein for a crucial Super Rugby fixture. Join The Roar from 11pm AEST on Saturday night for live scores and commentary.

The much anticipated return of Super Rugby has thrown up some fantastic games for the round, but it would be difficult to argue this is one of them.

The Cheetahs have won just three games from 12 this season, while the Force have won two from 12. And, of the five wins the two teams have recorded this season, three of them have come against the Sunwolves (the others coming when the Cheetahs beat the Kings and the Force beat the Reds).

The Cheetahs sit in 13th overall, while the Western Force are languishing in 16th.

To be fair, the Cheetahs were starting to find their feet before the break. They were winless in Australia, but they were competitive. Then they beat the Kings and should just about have beaten the Stormers.

The Force remain rooted to the bottom of the Australian conference and fully deserve their position. They are ranked 16th in defence and 18th in offence and are threatening to have their worst season since they debuted in Super Rugby (and, given the quality of some of the opposition in this year’s tournament, you could make a good argument that this season has been worse). They have won only one game from their last nine in SA.

The good news for the Force is that they welcome back Jono Lance at flyhalf after he missed most of the season with an injury. Not sure he can turn the team around though.

Of course, as much as they have struggled this year, one of these two teams seem certain to secure a much needed victory tonight. Unless it’s a draw. Which we can’t rule out.
