Concussion worry for young Saint McCartin

The immediate AFL future of young St Kilda prospect Paddy McCartin is under a cloud with the 20-year-old suffering his third concussion of the season against Gold Coast.

The 2014 No.1 draft pick came away groggy from a marking contest in the opening term of the Saints’ 40-point loss to the Suns on Saturday at Metricon Stadium.

McCartin was taken straight from the field and didn’t return after failing a medical assessment.

The Tasmanian product copped head knocks against Collingwood in round three and Adelaide in round 11.

He also suffered a concussion playing for Sandringham in the VFL last year and in the under-18 championships in 2014 while representing Vic Country.

St Kilda coach Alan Richardson refused to speculate on McCartin’s injury, saying he had yet to get a full briefing from the club’s medical staff.

“It’ll be up to the doctors and the medicos. They’ll do everything necessary to make sure he’s right to play or not,” Richardson said.

“It’s hard to speculate because I don’t really know.”
