Novak Djokovic is in strife at Wimbledon, losing the first two sets of his match against American Sam Querrey before the finish to the match was postponed due to rain.

The two had a tight first set which was ultimately decided on a tie-breaker, won by Querrey 8-6. However in the second set Djokovic looked badly out of form, torn apart by Querrey 6-1.

Querrey’s strong serving in the match has seen him make nine aces to just four from Djokovic so far, and Djokovic has failed to break Querrey even once.

The rain came at a good time for Djokovic – it will allow him to take a break and regroup, before preparing himself mentally for the remainder of the match tonight.

He’ll need to win the last three sets of the match if he is to progress to the fourth round and continue his quest for a Calendar Grand Slam.

One man whose time at Wimbledon is over certainly a bit earlier than was expected however is Stan Wawrinka. The Swiss fourth seed took the first set against Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro, only for del Potro to win the next three and claim the match.

It was a significant achievement for del Potro who has struggled with a wrist injury in recent years – this is the former world No.4’s first grand slam appearance since the 2014 Australian Open.

The surprise scuttling of Stan, and Djokovic’s potential dismissal, may open the door for the likes of Andy Murray or Roger Federer to take the 2016 Wimbledon crown, or perhaps someone lower down the order can make history.

Australia’s Nick Krygios battled hard to eventually overcome Germany’s Dustin Brown in five sets – Kyrgios was in a tough position mid-way through the match as Brown took a two-sets-to-one lead but despite some delays from the rain, Kyrgios won the final two sets and claimed the match, progressing into the third round.

Matthew Barton was also in action for Australia against John Isner, but fell to his more experienced foe in straight sets.

All three sets played between the pair went to tiebreakers and while Barton won just 14 points less than his opponent across the match, it was Isner’s ability to perform in the clutch moments that saw him get through.

That leaves Kyrgios, Bernard Tomic and John Millman as the only remaining Australians in the field.

The Williams sisters won a pair of difficult matches, Serena defeating Christina McHale despite McHale winning the first set in a tiebreaker, while Venus had a tense battle with 19-year-old Daria Kasatinka across three sets with the last going to 10-8.

Roger Federer made easy work of Daniel Evans, winning in straight sets.
