French excitement machine Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will look to cause an upset in the Wimbledon quarter-finals and knock over tournament favourite Andy Murray. Join The Roar for live scores from around 12 midnight (AEST).

Tsonga of course is best known for his Australian Open triumph in 2008 when as an unseeded player he made it all the way to the final, knocking off some of the best players in the world.

Since then he has lit up the Tennis world, but it has been a constant question of ‘what if?’ He has made the semifinals of both Wimbledon and the French Open twice, along with the Australian Open once, but never reached another final.

After a pair of straight set victories to get the tournament underway, Tsonga was involved in an epic with John Isner, where he would take the final set 19-17 after dropping the first two.

That match would have taken a lot out of Tsonga, but coming back from two sets down and also defeating a player like Isner will give him a lot of confidence moving forward. Having to only play a set and a half in the fourth round will also help, with Richard Gasquet having to retire.

Murray, on the other hand, has just been dominant. He hasn’t dropped a set, or looked like dropping one, with every facet of his game working to the best of its ability.

He has played Liam Broady, Yen Hsun-Lu and then Aussie duo John Millman and Nick Kyrgios – and with Kyrgios rolling over and accepting defeat, it would be fair to say he hasn’t had a true challenge yet, so it will be interesting to see how he responds to that if Tsonga plays like we all know he can.

Tsonga, like many players on the circuit, works off a big serve, but he has a stack of aggression and athleticism to go with it and if he can use that to unsettle Murray then this is going to be a lot closer than most people are thinking.

Murray, on the other hand, is a defensive player who likes to slowly work his opponents over if they are up to his level. His incredible returning skill will make it hard for Tsonga to control the match as he likes to with a serve.

The pair have faced off 16 times before with Murray controlling the match-up 12-4.

Prediction
Murray’s defence should be able to wear down Tsonga, even if it takes him five sets. This should be a very entertaining match though.

Murray in five sets.
