Brisbane have been dealt another blow after Test forward Matt Gillett was ruled out of Thursday night’s NRL clash with Sydney Roosters.

Gillett had been named to make his return from a shoulder injury sustained in State of Origin III for Queensland a fortnight ago.

But coach Wayne Bennett on Wednesday cut Gillett and confirmed three-game youngster Jaydn Su’A would start in the second row for the Allianz Stadium clash.

“I wouldn’t say he is definitely right next week,” Bennett said of Gillett who last played for Brisbane on July 1.

“He’s close but right now he’s just not fit to play.”

It is another setback for Brisbane who are without Test forwards Sam Thaiday and Josh McGuire this week due to suspension.

Brisbane will look to snap a run of six losses in eight games against the second-last Roosters with one of their youngest benches – Herman Ese’ese, Tevita Pangai Jnr, Jai Arrow and Joe Ofahengaue.

“I have got an interchange with no more than 20 games between them,” Bennett said.

“Hopefully in five years’ time they are the ones leading the team.”

Sixth placed Brisbane need to bounce back to keep in sight of the top four.

But Bennett said he was not worried about ladder positions just yet.

“The rest will look after itself when we start playing right – hopefully that is sooner rather than later,” he said.
