Round two of the 98th US PGA Championship at the Baltusrol Golf Club in New Jersey is set to get underway early hours of Saturday morning (AEST). Players vying to claim the Wanamaker Trophy will need to battle thick rough, tight fairways and slick greens. Whether you’re working, commuting or eating breakfast, join The Roar for live updates of the first day from 5:20am (AEST).

Australia’s own Jason Day will be looking to defend his title and become the first Australian to win back-to-back and defend a major championship. The man from Beaudesert has positioned himself well after day one and will be looking to end his 2016 season on a high.

Weather
Forecast for day two sees difficult conditions for the players with rain and possible thunderstorms predicted. The temperature expected to fluctuate between 21 and 31 degrees Celsius.

As the conditions are expected to worsen all week, the early starters on day two will be looking to put themselves well into contention before the worse of the weather arrives.

Wind speeds are expected to be average around nineteen kilometres per hour on day two.

Five thoughts on the round ahead
Jason Day is in prime position to take charge on day two. The Australian failed to make a considerable amount of putts inside ten feet but managed to grind out a respectable round. Look for him to go low today if the conditions hold up.

Jordan Spieth managed to grind out a respectable even par round on day one. Off early on day two, Spieth will need to ensure his driver is hit straight. The lone double bogey on the seventh hole cost him immensely on day one.

Henrik Stenson was solid in round one, will look to build a respectable score early during round two. The Swede is off in the morning session, which will give him the benefit of putting on untampered greens – this is key for him.

Emiliano Grillo is one of the most underrated players in the field this week. Ranked No.1 in total driving on the PGA Tour in 2016, the tight fairways of the Baltusrol Golf Club give him a great advantage.

I already questioned Rory Mcllroy coming in this week and I was proven right again. Something just isn’t right for the Northern Irishman, he doesn’t seem to be able to get any feel on the greens. I think he will miss the cut.

My prediction – Jason Day and Emiliano Grillo to be tied for the lead after day two. Stenson, Kaymer and Fowler will also be close at their heals.
