Cyclist Anna Meares has will be the carrying the flag for Australia, participating her in fourth Olympic Games. She won gold in the women’s sprint event in the track cycling in London in 2012, and is tipped to perform well again in 2016.

The Australian Olympic Committee predicts that 13 gold medals will be won by Australia, a significant increase over the seven won in London 2012. It would put Australia right back in the top echelon of nations in terms of gold medals won.

The study envisions Australian athletes to impress across the swimming events, with Bronte and Cate Campbell (50m freestyle, 100m freestyle) and Mitch Larkin (100m backstroke, 200m backstroke) headlining the team.

Meanwhile, the Australian Boomers are in for a tough Olympic campaign, drawing America, France, China and Serbia in what’s easily the ‘Group of Death’.

While there has been controversy surrounding the housing of the Australian athletes, the AOC remain optimistic that Australia can still succeed.

So what do you think Roarers? Are you going to be watching the Rio Opening Ceremony?
