Match preview:

With top-four spots still up for grabs, the Sydney Swans need a win against the Port Adelaide Power if they wish to distance themselves from the chasing pack. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 1:45pm (AEST).

The Swans are in third position on the ladder, behind three-time reigning premiers Hawthorn and Greater Western Sydney.

Sydney are coming off a dominant win over Fremantle at Subiaco last week, and will be expected to account for a Port Adelaide side seemingly out of the running for a finals berth.

The Power are three wins outside the top eight and need to conjure up a significant upset today just to keep their season on life support.

Sydney though has plenty to play for as they bid to maintain their position on the ladder. The Swans are only separated by percentages and a loss today will grant Geelong and Adelaide a great opportunity to overtake John Longmire’s men.

If Sydney hopes to make light work of Port Adelaide this afternoon, Lance Franklin has to play a significant role. The former Hawthorn star has kicked 13 goals in his last four matches at the SCG, and when he secures big hauls, the Swans invariably win.

Josh Kennedy and Dan Hannebery also impressed against Fremantle last week and will be key in instigating Sydney’s attack with their high-energy play.

For Port, Chad Wingard is capable of causing significant strife if the hosts’ defensive line-up isn’t firing – particularly Nick Smith, who may be tasked with marking the Port Adelaide forward.

The Swans need to win if they hope to maintain their place inside the top four, meaning the pressure is on the hosts to deliver against an inconsistent but dangerous Power team.

The Swans however are generally very strong at home and should continue their recent dominant record over the Power.
