The island nation cruised past a gutsy Japanese outfit in the semi-finals, breaking away in the second half to end the game four tries to one.
Great Britain had a much tougher task in their semi, edging out a much more fancied South African side 7-5 in a tight, low scoring affair.
Despite the scoreline, the game was very open and free flowing for the most part, but both sides lacked execution with mistakes dominating their offence.
The Brits won’t be gifted anything easier in the final either, up against double defending World Series champions and strong gold medal favourites Fiji.
South Africa and Japan will meet for a chance to round out the podium after contrasting losses in their respective semi-finals.
The never say die Japanese side are always entertaining and can’t be ruled out against the South African powerhouse.
A bit further down the card, Australia will fight for 7th placed finish after a sluggish couple of days on the park.
Losses in the quarter-final (South Africa) and subsequent positional playoff match (Argentina) has seen them drop from medal contenders to bottom half finishers.
The green and gold gave up a 21 point lead against Argentina in their match earlier today, letting in 26 unanswered points and three second half tries in an effort that can only be described as disappointing.
New Zealand and Argentina rounds out the day as they do battle for a respectable 5th place finish.
Not the result the kiwis were after coming into the tournament, but they’ve really failed to fire for most of the tournament and it’s cost them overall.
