Australia are heading into the game off the back of a very shaky group stage that saw them just sneak through by one point in the end.

An unexpected loss to Canada in their tournament opener, then a fighting draw against world number 2 Germany left Australia sitting at the wrong end of the table.

The Matildas were teetering on the edge of elimination coming into their final game, but a massive six goals to one romp of Zimbabwe and a loss for New Zealand over in Group G got them into the final eight.

Contrastingly, host nation Brazil finished the group stages on top of their pool and second overall without a loss from their three games.

Despite their dominant performance to pick up two wins from the first two outings, Brazil were dealt a shock nil-all draw by a team ranked 44 spots beneath them, South Africa.

The Matildas have struggled immensely throughout the group stages, much more than expected, but coming into the game off a 6-1 win will do them wonders for their confidence.

Just as South Africa’s scoreless draw with Brazil will dig into the hosts and put them on the backfoot.
