It will be another action packed day at the Rio Olympic Velodrome with another two gold medals up for grabs in the women’s keirin and team pursuit, while the men’s sprint continues to unfold before the final tomorrow. Join The Roar for live coverage from 5am (AEST).

Starting with the team pursuit race, which will be the first to be decided, and Great Britain as they did in the men’s event go in as favourites.

At the time of writing, the Round 1 races have not yet been completed but the British qualified in a scintillating world record pace of 4.13.26, a whole second ahead of the United States of America.

Great Britain should have, but the time you are reading this defeated Canada quite convincingly and be taking on either the USA or Australia for gold – whichever one it is, they will need a massive effort to win.

Australia should have a bit of time to take off their qualifying effort as they continue to recover and gain confidence after that crash in training when Melisa Hoskins was taken to hospital.

The Women’s keirin is set up to be a cracking event and barring any real surprises in the qualification events which happen after the time of writing.

Kristina Vogel is the world champion in the event, and based on that it is hard to argue she isn’t going to take gold. She has all the experience, and is in great form riding Germany to bronze yesterday against Stephanie Morton in the team sprint event.

Anna Meares will also fancy her chances here, and lost to Vogel at the World Championships – this is where the real battle should come from.

Looking at the ongoing men’s sprint event, which doesn’t have any medals up for grabs just yet, going as far as the semi-finals today and Callum Skinner and Jarrod Kenny, the duo from Great Britain go in as favourites after their qualification efforts.

However, while they are undeniable favourites to face off in the gold medal race tomorrow, Australian Matthew Glaetzer will throw down the gauntlet strongly. He qualified in third position and is riding strongly, with his tactics looking locked in at this point.

Prediction
Like in the men’s competition it is extremely hard to see anyone beating Great Britain in the women’s team pursuit after their world record. Australia to continue their recovery effort and face them in the final.

Kristina Vogel has all been in fantastic form and should get the job done in the women’s keirin.
