From being an MVP winner in 2011, to being traded for a few role players in 2016, Derrick Rose has experienced the ultimate highs and lows so far throughout his NBA career.

Rose has had issues with his body, including many knee surgeries. So what level can he be expected to play at in New York in 2017?

Rose will undoubtedly start for the Knicks, and play alongside a star-studded line-up including Carmelo Anthony, Kristaps Porzingis and Derrick’s good friend and former Bull Joakim Noah.

Rose showed glimpses of his former self last season with Chicago, as his athleticism and explosiveness returned at times. That said, consistency was a major issue, as he struggled to put more than two or three high quality games together consecutively.

Throughout his final stint at the Bulls he was consistently overshadowed by Jimmy Butler, who is now in Rio with the United States national team.

If his body holds up, and Derrick can appear in at least 65 games in 2017, it is realistic to believe he could play at an all-star level.

He has the floor-spacing and shooting surrounding him to open up driving lanes, as well as the great passing at the centre position in Joakim Noah.

Rose will never return to his MVP-form, but can certainly play at an all-star level in 2017, and maybe make the all-star game as a reserve in the typically weaker Eastern Conference.

The ultimate goal, however, is to be healthy for a long playoff run, and finally feel the jubilation of winning a championship. It is certainly a tough ask for the boy from Chicago.
