The newly crowned No.1 Test team in the world Pakistan look to replicate that success when they begin a one-day series on their tour of England, at the Rose Bowl. Join The Roar for live scores from 11pm (AEST).

Pakistan might have only drawn the Test series against England, but it hasn’t stopped them from advancing to the top of the rankings, as Australia struggled against Sri Lanka.

To pull off a drawn series under pressure like that and away from home is something we haven’t seen from Pakistan in many years, with the side known for their unpredictability, not only from series to series, but from match to match – particularly when touring.

Moving into the ODI series, you would have to think things will only get better for Pakistan, with the country generally more known for their limited overs play.

The pressure is probably off outside of the playing group, and this could allow them to play the free-flowing cricket for which they are best known.

Pakistan have had two lead-up matches since the Test series finished, both against Ireland. However, the second was completely ruined due to rain, which could well play a part during the series Against England.

The first saw Pakistan win the toss and bat first, piling up a massive 337, with Sharjeel Khan posting 152 in 32 overs at the crease, facing just 86 balls.

They then knocked Ireland over for just 82, with Imad Wasim taking five wickets and Umar Gul three.

The key for England will be controlling an enthusiastic Pakistan team early on, and then scoring enough runs, with Jos Butler and captain Eoin Morgan the main men.

Prediction
Tough to tip the first match in any series, but given where momentum is from the Test series and Pakistan’s brutal thumping of Ireland, expect them to take a 1-0 lead.

It won’t be easy, though, and the toss will be important.

Pakistan in a close one.
