With the initial squad of 40 having been released, and the usual debate and discussion on how the voters stuffed up under way, here is who will make the final 22.

The Certainties
Coleman medal winner Josh Kennedy and runner-up Lance Franklin will make the team as full forward and centre-half forward, while Eddie Betts is a lock to start in the pocket.

Brownlow favourite Patrick Dangerfield will start in the midfield, along with Max Gawn as the ruckman. In defence, Alex Rance will start at full back, Heath Shaw will also be in the team.

The probables
Lachie Neale was terrific, leading the league in disposals. He would be a certainty if not for Fremantle’s poor record.

Cyril Rioli will most likely be slotted in alongside Eddie Betts as a small forward. Luke Parker and Daniel Hannebery will most likely start in the midfield also, along with Rory Sloane, who has been spectacular for Adelaide. Corey Enright was again spectacular for Geelong.

The maybes
Dustin Martin will most likely appear on the bench, but is no certainty due to the depth in the midfield. The same applies to Jack Steven and Sam Mitchell.

Either Luke Shuey or Andrew Gaff will most likely be the fourth member of the bench. Dean Rampe does not get a lot of media coverage, but should be a lock on the back flank. Jasper Pittard led the league in metres gained, and should be in consideration.

He should make it, but the voters may leave him out
Marcus Bontempelli was terrific this season, but his numbers were not elite, potentially discouraging selectors. Adam Treloar played for a bad side, but was a superstar.

Surely he can be slotted in the forward pocket somewhere. Daniel Talia and Rory Laird were excellent for Adelaide, and should slot in the back line. Tom Lynch (GC) starred for a bad side, but should be named in the forward pocket.
