Collingwood veteran Travis Cloke has requested a release from the final year of his five-year contract after a tumultuous 2016 that saw him dropped to the VFL three separate times.
Power forward Cloke officially asked for his release this morning (Tuesday 30th), and while the club has yet to grant it, Cloke is expected to be a hot trading property for the club over the off season.
“Collingwood can confirm that veteran forward Travis Cloke this morning asked to be released from the final year of his contract.” said the club in a statement released today.
“While Travis remains contracted to play for Collingwood in 2017, all at Collingwood respect Travis’ right to explore his options and acknowledge his 12 years of exceptional senior service.”
The Western Bulldogs have already been linked to the 29-year-old and are heavy favourites to be the new home for Cloke in 2017.
Richmond and North Melbourne have also hinted at interest, with Cloke meeting coaches from both sides at various points over the past few weeks.
Although the Kangaroos looked to pulled themselves out of the race for the 2010 Premiership winner after they dropped a host of veterans in favour of blooding younger talent.
Cloke debuted for the Magpies as an 18-year old back in 2005 after being taken at draft pick 39 the year before under the father-son rule.
He would go on to play 246 games for the club and kick 441 goals, the 7th highest tally of all-time for the club.
Coach Nathan Buckley will be without two experienced heads at the club for next season after the retirement of Dane Swan.

It is time that the tribunal became more simplistic, closed defence loopholes, and became representative of the game that it is trying to serve.
