Wildcard James Duckworth has a tough fixture ahead of him when he takes on ninth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Join The Roar for live scores from around 2:30am (AEST).

Duckworth has progressed to the second round following a win in five sets over Dutchman Robin Haase 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

The Australian came from behind in an incredible feat after 17 unforced errors in the first set before blasting through the third set in which he hit seven aces and made just four unforced errors.

Duckworth must ensure he gets off to a good start and avoid any unnecessary errors while also keeping double faults to a bare minimum.

Having qualified through a wildcard, Duckworth has nothing to lose and therefore should do everything in his power to get past Tsonga and cause what would be a massive upset.

His 2016 season has been riddled by injury and poor form, having struggled in the lead-up to the US Open.

Duckworth has won six of his last ten matches however, apart from his victory over Haase, he is yet to win in the main draw this US Open season.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeated his first round opponent Guido Andreozzi in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 after a poor lead-in to Flushing Meadows with second round exits at both Cincinnati and Rio.

The Frenchman is on shaky ground with injury defining his inconsistent season.

Tsonga is seeded ninth and has won seven of his last ten matches with his best ever finish in New York being the quarterfinals which he has reached twice – in 2011 and 2015.

The pair have never played each other on the ATP Tour.

The winner will progress to the third round where they will take on either Vasek Pospisil or Kevin Anderson.

Prediction
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will send Duckworth packing and move through to the third round.

Tsonga in straight sets.
