Rain has forced play to be abandoned on Saturday’s third day of the four-day quadrangular series match between Australia A and India A in Brisbane.

Australia A need 100 runs to secure a victory at Allan Border Field, with six wickets in hand.

Earlier on Saturday, the hosts bowled India A out for 156 to end their second innings, just before the lunch break.

The Australians went to tea at 4-59 but heavy rain ended the day early.

Cameron Bancroft (16) and Beau Webster (6) are at the crease after India A quick Shardul Thakur had taken two wickets in two balls.

Thakur bowled former Test opener Joe Burns for 11 and, with his next delivery, had Travis Dean caught for a duck to leave Australia A at a shaky 2-17.

Peter Handscomb was dismissed for 24 (3-42), followed by Marcus Stoinis, lbw, for no score (4-50).

Australia’s three pace bowlers David Moody, Chadd Sayers and Daniel Worrall) each snared three wickets, with spinner Mitch Swepson grabbing one to finish with five for the match.
