Karolina Pliskova caused a boil-over to make the final of the US Open and will look for another upset when she takes on the new world No.1 Angelique Kerber who has been fantastic throughout the tournament. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 6am (AEST).

Pliskova has surprised most to make the final at the last grand slam of the year, but her form has been outstanding.

The number ten seed has only lost one set and her last-start win against Serena Williams, which was in straight sets, raised eyebrows all around the tennis world.

Most were expecting the tournament to go the exact way it was supposed to, with Williams and Kerber making the final, but Pliskova didn’t want to read that script, continuing her remarkable level of play to get the win.

Despite getting what can only be described as a relatively easy run through the tournament, she has taken out both the Williams sisters and was dominant against Ana Konjuh in the quarter-finals.

Kerber has blasted her way through the tournament so far, barely even raising an effort and not dropping a set so far.

After playing lower-ranked opponents in the first three rounds, she has been tested since taking on Petra Kvitova, Roberta Vinci and Caroline Wozniacki.

She was particularly impressive against Vinci, winning the second set 6-0, but she has only been taken to 7-5 twice and not forced into a tie-breaker since the second round.

The pair have previously matched up seven times with Kerber controlling the ledger 4-3. In saying that, they have never played at a grand slam so from an experience point of view that probably tips the ledger in favour of Kerber.

However, their last meeting which came earlier in the year at the Cincinnati final, also on hard court, saw Pliskova surprise Kerber in a straight sets demolition 6-3, 6-1.

In that match, she was brilliant against the serve of Kerber and will need to be again. She was limited to winning just 49 per cent of points on her first serve, and it is incredibly difficult to win any match doing that.

Prediction
Despite the excellent form of Pliskova it’s pretty tough to see her pulling off another upset. Kerber will have too much and her defence will be just too overwhelming.

Kerber in three sets.
