The West Indies look to build on their World T20 victory when they kick off a long tour against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates with three Twenty20 matches, the first of which will be in Dubai. Join The Roar for live scores from 2am (AEST).

The West Indies, despite struggling dearly in the Test arena and off the field with contracts and player payments marring the side, they finally did something of note winning the World T20 earlier in the year, defeating England in the final.

Their most recent series was at home against India, and they managed to win the first match by a single run before the second was rained out.

This being a three-match series away from home will give the Windies a chance to build momentum and form, but it will put them to the test against a talented but unpredictable Pakistan side.

In their warm-up match against the Emirates Cricket Board XI, the West Indies managed to make 166 despite struggling with the bat through the innings. Johnson Charles opened up and batted exceptionally well, though, making 42.

After his efforts at the World Cup, there is no question Charles is one of the side’s key players, along with spinners Samuel Badree and Sunil Narine who picked up five wickets between them in the 22-run victory over the Emirates XI.

Pakistan have recently been on a long tour of England which wrapped up with a single T20 match that they absolutely dominated, winning by nine wickets with five overs to spare.

After a disappointing World T20 where they were bundled out in the Super 10s stage of the tournament, the England victory was a promising result and one they will look to build on back at their home away from home.

The squad is led by Sarfraz Ahmed, who has a massive role to play with the bat while Mohammad Amir will lead the attack and must find a way to reduce the West Indies’ powerful top order.

The nations have squared off four times in the T20 arena, with the ledger locked at two games a piece.

Prediction
Pakistan would normally be the outright favourites on the subcontinent, but they never properly recovered in England and the West Indies, as shambolic as they are, really excel in the shortest form of the game. The tourists should get the job done, but it won’t be by much.

West Indies in a close one to open the series.
