The magnificent effort by the Western Bulldogs to reach their first AFL grand final in 55 years should be commended.

They defeated the GWS Giants 89-83 in an entertaining clash at Spotless Stadium.

They have had to endure a lot of adversity considering the number of injuries that they’ve had throughout the season, which makes their achievement even more remarkable and meritorious.

A number of experts in the media started to write them off during the season when they lost a number of key players to injury. Then, the wheels started to fall off.

The spirit, courage and belief that the Western Bulldogs have shown has been tremendous. To first of all get their season back on track and then to make the grand final has been truly inspiring.

They’ll need every ounce of it next week when they face the experienced Sydney Swans outfit, but hopefully their youthful energy and will to win will stand them in good stead.

As a neutral fan I hope that the Western Bulldogs win the AFL grand final and hold aloft the Holy Grail next week at the MCG.

If they do it will be one of the greatest victories in recent history considering all of the hurdles that they’ve had to overcome.
