There are going to be some hard luck stories one way or another this weekend as a number of Swans and Bulldogs try to prove their fitness in time for the big game.

Sudanese Swan Aliir Aliir has already been ruled out of the match but Sydney have to pick who they will bring in to replace him, and weigh up whether Jarrad McVeigh and Callum Mills are fit enough to play.

Do the Swans replace height with height and bring in veteran Ted Richards to fill the hole left by Aliir? Or could they bring in a medium-sized player against the undersized Bulldogs’ forward line? And which unlucky players could be squeezed out my the potential returns of Mills and McVeigh?

The Bulldogs also have some concerns and probably the biggest is whether or not Jordan Roughead will recover from having blood in his eye soon enough to take to the field in the biggest match of the year.

If not, then Tom Campbell or even Will Minson could get a call up – or perhaps the Bulldogs opt to play Tom Boyd through the ruck for most of the match, and bring in a small.

Lin Jong is pressing for a return after a best-on-ground display in the VFL grand final last weekend, and Matt Suckling is also in with a chance after missing last week with an Achilles concern.
