Summer is just around the corner, and NRL grand final on Sunday, with kick-off between the Melbourne Storm and Cronulla Sharks scheduled for 7:15pm (AEST) is promising to be the best weather Sydney has seen since last summer.

While Sydney has experienced some nice days, the weather is going to put on a show for the biggest game of the year, with the Mereau of Meteorology perfect conditions for footy and fans a like.

Weather for NRL grand final

Sunny. Patchy morning fog in the outer west. Light winds becoming north to northeasterly 15 to 20 km/h during the day then tending north to northwesterly in the evening.

You nearly couldn’t ask for anything better with the government agency predicting temperatures to hit a maximum of 28 degrees.

The bureau is also suggesting that with a very high UV index predicted, sun protection should be used between 9:50am and 4pm – which is particularly important if you happen to be sitting in the lower, unprotected areas of ANZ Stadium.

The chance of rain for the big day is only 5 per cent, which means it’s virtually non-existent.

It’s hard to say which team the heat will benefit – while it isn’t outrageous, it’s nothing that either team have experienced since the opening rounds of the season.

Cronulla probably will use it more to their advantage, spending their pre-season in sweltering Sydney and being able to use their outside backs more effectively – the style that Melbourne play is excellent in cold and wet conditions.

Given there has been very little rain in the lead-up and isn’t expected to be any in the 24 hours before kick-off, we should expect a dry track as well.

So there it is. The weather will be great for the NRL grand final, and there will be no excuses for either side not to play entertaining football.
