Pakistan look to continue their winning ways against a dismal West Indies who are struggling badly on their tour of the United Arab Emirates. Join The Roar for live scores of the second ODI in Sharjah from 10pm (AEDT).
After kicking the home stand with a 3-0 victory in the T20 series, Pakistan have continued that excellent form into the One Day series, not letting the West Indies come close during the first match.
Despite the fact the match was rain affected and the West Indies had the advantage of batting second, so often a telling factor under the Duckworth-Lewis method they simply were not in the same league as Pakistan.
The hosts would win the toss and elect to bat first, and after Azhar Ali was sent back to the pavilion on the first ball of the innings they recovered strongly and ended up posting 9 for 284 from 49 overs.
Babar Azam, batting at first drop had a breakout innings as he made 120 while usual suspects Sharjeel Khan and Sarfraz Ahmed got amongst the runs making 54 and 35 respectively as Pakistan’s second and third top scorers.
They will be the key moving forward throughout the series, as they are every time Pakistan plays in a limited overs game. While their bowlers are good, they do need to make a score and the pair have proven to be consistent run scorers.
In reply, the West Indies were set 287 from 49 overs thanks to Pakistan’s innings being shortened throughout, indicating a DL score.
They would only make 175 as they were knocked over in 38.4 overs with Marlon Samuels once again their best as he scored 46. That however, simply isn’t good enough and he can’t carry the team on his own, as he has done throughout the tour so far.
Prediction
Pakistan have been dominant so far and it’s extremely hard to see them losing. The West Indies simply aren’t adapting to the conditions in the UAE, and it’s only going to get worse for them as the tour goes on it would seem with Pakistan playing themselves further and further into form.
Pakistan in a canter.
