The Caulfield Guineas presents itself as one of the marquee races on the calendar every year, and it’s no different now as the field settles in for the 1600 metre dash. Join The Roar for all the live race updates, highlights and results from 4:30pm (AEDT).

The three-year-olds are in a battle of cities as the Sydney colts come down to invade the Melbourne field.

The top three finishers from Stan Fox are all lining up for today’s Guineas, with those same three runners making up the top five from the Golden Rose.

Impending stands as the favourite coming into the race, but there are five runners paying under ten dollars with the bookies, so the field is fairly even and the winner anyone’s guess.

Impending comes in with a win in the aforementioned Stan Fox, on top of place finishes in the Golden Rose and Run to the Rose, all three of which distance between 1200 and 1500 metres, making this distance a fine length for the colt to tackle.

Winner of the Caulfield Guineas Prelude, Sacred Elixir, is hot property in a field that contains the entire top seven of that Prelude.

The New Zealand horse has a tendency to start steady and hangs around mid-pack throughout the race, but the finish in those legs are as explosive as any in the field today.

Divine Prophet has been running well as of late as well, winning the Up and Coming Stakes and has begun to rival Impending as the race favourite for today, having kept his own against the colt multiple times this year already.

Hey Doc has been shaping up well into spring, taking out the Stutt Stakes in a race that has traditionally launched winning horses into winning contention and big results at the Guineas.

Kaching is an outside chance to look out for after a good result at the Stutts, picking up a place finish among a steady field of good runners.

What are the odds?
Impending is the short price favourite at $4.40, but he has very close company in a tight field with Divine Prophet pricing in at $4.80 for the bookies.

Sacred Elixir is looking good at $6.50 and Evacuation is a solid bet despite floating back out to $7.50.

Kaching is a value bet at $26 and a real chance to take the win from one of the favourites, but the value for money bet would be the same horse on a place finish, being priced at a handy $6.50 for a top three finish.

If you’re after a smokey to throw a few bucks on, look no further than So Si Bon at $51 who ran a tight sixth at the Prelude only a length and half back from the winner.

If you’re just drunk and want to be “that guy”, then Barbie’s Boy is paying $151 for the win.

Prediction
There are a lot of good runners in this field and it really could be anyone’s to win out of the barriers.

Impending and Divine Prophet are big favourites and strong candidates to take it on the post, but there are so many strong finishers in the pack that they could so easily be blown away on the straight.

I’m going to go with Impending to take the win with a possible place for Sacred Elixir or Hey Doc.

1. Impending
2. Sacred Elixir
3. Divine Prophet
4. Hey Doc
