Clarke comments reflection on him: Watson

Shane Watson says Michael Clarke’s comments about the allrounder being “like a tumour” said more about the former Australian captain than anything else.

Promoting his autobiography on 60 Minutes, Clarke on Sunday revisited the 2013 incident in which he admonished several players during the Ashes tour.

While pushing the line it was in reference to a number of players and not just Watson, Clarke admitted to saying the behaviour was “like a tumour, and if we don’t cut it out, they’ll become a cancer”.

Watson addressed the issue on stage at the CPA Congress in Melbourne on Tuesday.

“For me I think it was more a reflection of the person he is more than what it was directed towards me,” Watson said.

“In the end it is really disappointing that things like that start to come out two or three years later on when we are all very content in retirement.”

Sacked coach Mickey Arthur had claimed at the time in leaked legal documents that he was the middle man in a ugly feud between Watson and Clarke and that the skipper called Watson a “‘cancer” on the team.
