South Africa’s tearaway quicks Dale Steyn and Kagiso Rabada will get first hit-out on their Australian tour on Sunday against an inexperienced Cricket Australia XI at Adelaide Oval.

Against a side of players all aged 22 or under, the Proteas made 415 all out on Saturday’s opening day of the two-day game with Quenton de Kock scoring 122 retired and JP Duminy making 97.

Hashim Amla (51 retired) and Dean Elgar (43) also spent valuable time at the crease ahead of the three-Test series against Australia starting November 3.

De Kock smashed 16 fours and three sixes in his 103-ball knock but downplayed his tour-opening feats.

“I don’t count all the warm-up games,” de Kock said.

“A warm-up game and a net to me is the same thing.

“But when it comes game time and focus time then I’d like to contribute to our camp.”

While de Kock dominated, South African captain Faf du Plessis (8), opener Stephen Cook (5) and Rilee Rossouw (8) failed.

But de Kock, Duminy and Amla settled into stride in what, for many South Africans, was their first hit against a pink ball in match conditions.

“I’m not one to over-think it: a ball is a ball,” de Kock said.

“I just play the way I should be playing in that situation, so there’s no difference to me at the end of the day.”

Emerging NSW spinner Arjun Nair took 2-82 from 20 overs and Tom O’Donnell claimed 2-71.

South Africa play another two-day practice game on Thursday and Friday in Adelaide before travelling to Perth.
