Confusion reigned in offices all over Australia last year trying to work out their office sweep for who had finished last after Red Cadeaux didn’t cross the line at the end of the race.

This year though, there would be no such confusion as every horse passed the finish line, with Rose of Virginia the last of them by a considerable margin.

After a fast-paced race, there would be no upset like last year with Almandin taking out the victory ahead of Heartbreak City and Hartnell.

Rose of Virginia, despite easing off towards the end of the race did pass the post a long time after the 23rd finisher in the field, Curren Mirotic.

In fact, the difference between the two pairs was over 70 lengths with apprentice jockey Ben E Thompson easing his horse off towards the finish line.

After starting out of barrier eight, the Lee Hope trained horse had a decent start but was never a chance as the field went straight around.

The final five horses in the field were Gallante, Secret Number, Wicklow Brave, Curren Mirotic and Rose of Virginia.

So if you had Rose of Virginia in your office sweep – well, at least you won’t lose your money!
