Jared Waerea-Hargreaves will stay with the Sydney Roosters until at least the end of the 2020 NRL season after signing a three-year contract extension.

The New Zealand prop has played 143 games for the club in seven seasons, and averaged 120 metres in 14 games for the Roosters this year.

The 27-year-old missed a big chunk of the season with a knee injury but did enough to force his way into the New Zealand squad competing in the Four Nations in the UK.

He played his first game for the Kiwis in three years when he ran out against Australia in Perth last month.

“Everyone who knows me knows how much the Roosters mean to me,” Waerea-Hargreaves said in a statement.

“It’s an honour to wear the Roosters jersey and to represent our area, and I consider myself incredibly fortunate to know that I’ll continue to be part of the team we have here for at least the next four years.”

Roosters coach Trent Robinson described Waerea-Hargreaves, the Roosters’ vice-captain, as a natural leader.

“It’s great to know that Jared will continue to play his role at the Roosters in the coming years,” Robinson said.
