Five changes Australia should make for the third Test

With humiliating performances rapidly becoming the modus operandi for our Test side, a mid-90s ECB style overhaul of the team must be just around the corner.

With Rod Marsh and cohorts busy with media commitments and home brewing, I thought I’d offer a few suggestions for the third Test against our new cricketing overlords.

Burns out, Bancroft in
While the phrase ‘twin failures’ could be applied to several Aussies so far this summer, Joe Burns certainly didn’t make the most of his return to the Test side in Hobart.

One run across two innings is a total Cameron Bancroft should have no trouble surpassing, and his short leg skills should prove even more valuable than Joe Mennie’s batting prowess.

Sayonara Voges, hola Patterson
Dumping a batsman with an average over 50 isn’t an easy call, but Adam Voges’ time in the national setup is done.

Kurtis Patterson’s strong start to the season makes him a sound inclusion in the middle order, and he’s been itching to break into the baggy green since he debuted for NSW.

Go well, young man.

Bye Ferguson, welcome back Maxwell
Six batsmen line-ups haven’t worked for the Aussies, so it’s back to all-rounder land for Adelaide.

Glenn Maxwell is a solid choice at six as a batsman first of all, with his ridiculous fielding and handy off spin added bonuses to the arsenal. Vics do it better.

Swapping South Australian bowlers
A combination of stubbornness, senility and stupidity from the selectors saw Joe Mennie make his Test debut in Hobart ahead of the far more suitable Chadd Sayers or Jackson Bird.

Despite the eyesore spelling that blights his first name, Sayers’ outstanding early season form with the ball should see him play ahead of Mennie in Adelaide.

Quit Lyon, put (a) SOK in (it)
As we’ve apparently moved to a time of picking bowlers for their batting, The Roar favourite Stephen O’Keefe should be our first choice spinner for the foreseeable future.

He comes with the bonus abilities of taking wickets and not getting belted, which are handy additions.

With a 0-6 Test record scoreline looming like the threat of PM Pauline Hanson, let’s make Australia great again, return to our English roots, and dump half the side.

You know it makes sense.
