The Brisbane Roar will be looking to deny Sydney FC seven straight wins when they do battle at Suncorp Stadium tonight. Join us on The Roar from 7:50pm AEDT for live scores from the game and a live blog of the match.
Brisbane could well have been entering this clash on the back of four consecutive wins themselves if only for a tame Sergi Guardiola header last week denying them all three points in a tight 1-1 draw with Adelaide United.
The Roar again showed their defensive strength last week denying the Reds a shot on target until Guardiola’s header in the second half which Michael Theo should’ve saved.
In attack Brisbane were far from their best last week however and could benefit from Jamie Maclaren’s return from international duty tonight.
Sydney FC come into this game with six straight wins, two goals conceded all season and an emphatic 4-1 win over Perth Glory last week. A key man in that victory was Milos Ninkovic who scored two and assisted another as he continued what has been a very classy start to the season for him.
The Sky Blues strength lies not in one man however but in the whole squad with quality across the pitch. The fact David Carney, Matt Simon and Milos Dimitrijevic are all stuck on the bench says a whole lot about their overall ability.
Jamie Maclaren is back for the Roar this week after international duty with Jacob Pepper, Nick D’Agostino and Kye Rowles all joining him via promotion.
Brisbane are however without Brandon Borrello who is sidelined with a hamstring injury and Joey Katebian who wasn’t selected.
The only changes for Sydney see Bernie Ibini and George Blackwood both promoted into the squad with their only absentee Vedran Janjetovic, who remains out through illness.
Prediction
The Sky Blues’ winning run has to end sometime and I am tipping that tonight will be the night. Up against what has so far been a brilliant Roar defence who should also be bolstered up front by the return of Maclaren, I see Sydney FC being held to an engrossing 1-1 draw. Wouldn’t be too surprised by a goalless draw either.
So can Brisbane halt the leaders or will Sydney FC get their seventh straight win? Join us on The Roar from 7:50pm AEDT to find out as the Brisbane Roar host Sydney FC from Suncorp Stadium.
