Old rivals Australia and New Zealand will go head to head in the final match of the 2016 Four Nations tournament. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:30am on Monday 21 November (AEDT).
Where: Anfield, Liverpool
When: 1:30am, Monday 21 November (AEDT)
TV: GEM, live
Betting: Australia $1.25, New Zealand $4
So far across four editions of the Four Nations tournament, the ledger is split at two titles each between these two sides, with the Kangaroos winning in 2009 and 2011, and the Kiwis victorious in 2010 and 2014.
This match then presents an opportunity for both sides to take the all-time lead in Four Nations and for Australia in particular it’s an opportunity to stamp themselves as clearly the best side in the world at the moment.
They’ve beaten New Zealand a handful of times already this year but would not want to let it slip here, or they’ll wind up feeling a bit foolish.
They come into the match as the clear favourites after an impressive tournament where they went 3-0, recording big victories over both Scotland and England, and also beating New Zealand 14-8.
New Zealand have had a trickier time of it and haven’t really impressed a great deal. In addition to their loss to Australia, they beat England by a slim margin, winning 17-16, and drew 18-18.
They’ll need a pretty serious reversal of form if they’re going to turn things around and upset the Australians in the final, but would take some heart from the fact that the margin last time around was by no means large.
Regardless of the form line there’s no doubt they’ve got the talent stocks in their side to turn things around very quickly and give the Australians trouble.
The match will be televised live on free-to-air TV via GEM, and we’ll have a live blog and video highlights here on The Roar as things begin at 1:30am, Monday 21 November (AEDT).
