The last piece of the AFL draft puzzle in place after the 2016 AFL Rookie Draft was run. A number of former AFL players found new homes through the draft.

316-game North Melbourne veteran Drew Petrie became a ‘rookie’, landing at the West Coast Eagles where he’ll provide depth for the club as a ruck or key forward, and work alongside former teammates Adam Simpson and Brady Rawlings.

Brisbane picked up former Giant Jake Barrett who only played one game for the Giants before being delisted at the end of 2016 – though the Giants were reportedly willing to re-list him if he did not find a new home.

GWS continued their love affair with former Fremantle players, picking up Tendai Mzungu after drafting Matt de Boer to their senior list on Friday night.

And he wasn’t the only former Docker to find a new home – Alex Silvagni will join the Carlton football club in 2016, being their second pick in the rookie draft.

Delisted Sun Henry Schade was picked up by Collingwood and will add to their tall defender depth after they lost several in the 2016 off-season.

They draw also saw father-son prospects Ben Jarman and Sam Simpson land at the Adelaide Crows and the Geelong Cats respectively, while Geelong also picked up Zach Guthrie, brother of current player Cam.
