Match preview:

Sydney FC will travel north to face the Newcastle Jets this afternoon with their undefeated season still intact and history on their side. Join The Roar from 5pm (AEDT) for all the live scores, highlights and A-League action.

Sydney is fresh off defeat in the FFA Cup final on Wednesday, losing the silverware to Melbourne City and suffering their first loss in the both the A-League and Cup this season.

The Sky Blues started with six wins on the trot before drawing their last two games and the aforementioned Cup defeat.

While they remain at the top of the standings, their form in the last month has seen them slip up on the park and allow City to close the gap in second place.

But it’s Newcastle they need to be worrying about today.

The Jets have just one win so far this season from eight games and continue their struggles from last season at the wrong end of the table.

These two have already faced off once this year, with a comfortable two-nil win going the way of Sydney at the very stadium they’re playing at this afternoon.

Sydney have a stellar record on the road at Newcastle, racking up 11 wins with just one loss from their last 16 visits there.

The Jets are still just five points shy of the top six so their season is far from over, but they need to find a result sooner rather than later before they fall out of touch.

They were made to look second rate last week against Melbourne Victory last week, letting in two goals to one for their fourth loss in five weeks.

Team News
The Jets still have a host of unavailable players out through injury, but their side remains unchanged from last week’s loss with the single addition of Labinot Haliti to an extended match day squad.

The visitors are also coming into the game with the same squad as keeper Vedran Janjetovic remains out of action on a slightly controversial stress leave.

Bernie Ibini and George Blackwood come into the extended squad with two to be omitted come game time.

Prediction
It’s hard to get behind Newcastle at this point, especially with a dominant Sydney side standing in their way.

The Sky Blues need a big win to reassure themselves after a shaky few weeks and the disappointment of Wednesday’s loss, and this shapes up to be the perfect game to get them back on track.
