So the first taste of World Championship prospects I put out there hasn’t quite tantalised your taste buds completely?

If you’ve played a bit of sport before and are looking to utilise that now seldom used touch of skill, cunning, brute strength and brash recklessness, here are ten more absolutely genuine realistic opportunities to become a legitimate 2017 World Champion!

1. World Stinging Nettle Eating Championships
Speaking of taste buds; if yours don’t function properly then The Bottle Inn in Dorset, England is the place for you.

The World Stinging Nettle Eating Championships take place in June. Yes, you read that correctly; Stinging Nettle Eating.

2. World Custard Pie Championships

Teams of four stand eight feet apart and hurl pies at each other. They are awarded points for accuracy and are docked points for missing, but can recover with bonuses for costumes and technique!

All keen pie chuckers should head to Maidstone, England in June for the 50th edition of the Championship.

Up to date news of the 2017 edition of the event can be found here.

3. World Stone Skimming Championship
Were you the best in your school at skimming stones? Do you think you could you “skim for Australia”?

Well, the world stage awaits your arrival. Scotland’s Easdale Island was previously a thriving slate mine and is now the perfect amphitheatre to host the World Championships. Stones must skim at least three times in order to be legal and the stone that travels the furthest is the winner!

If you are keen to represent Australia, or any other country, at the 2017 event in September then hit their website.

Aussies and Kiwis may know this better as the good old Gumboot Throw.

It’s pretty simple too. You can use any technique you want, with or without a run-up and as long as the boot lands in the designated “thong” area, it is legal.

If you’re keen to try and become the World’s Best Welly Wanger check out the Upperthong Village website – don’t worry it is safe for work!

10. Trugo World Championships
Don’t fancy travelling around the world? Melbourne has its very own unique sport that is so simple, anyone can play it. And I mean anyone.

Trugo was invented by railwaymen in the 1920s and uses equipment that was readily available in the rail yards.

Players face backwards and hit a rubber ring with a mallet from between their legs into a goal 20 metres away.

Trugo has a league but also boasts individual competitions throughout the year, including the World Championship. For more information on Trugo head to their website.
