All-rounder Glenn Maxwell has failed to win a berth in Australia’s side for the dead-rubber one-dayer against New Zealand at the MCG.
The home team won the toss and will bat, with Friday’s morning rain clearing in time for the start of play.
Captain Steve Smith said they would take an unchanged line-up into the third and final match of the series.
Maxwell received a team fine last week after he made comments about batting below Matthew Wade in the Victorian Sheffield Shield team.
On Thursday, Australian coach Darren Lehmann praised Maxwell for how he had handled the fallout from the controversy.
Lehmann added Maxwell was a chance to come into the side, but he will be 12th man instead.
Australia have kept with the side that belted New Zealand in Canberra on Tuesday to take an unbeatable 2-0 series lead.
New Zealand made two changes for Friday’s day-nighter, with Jimmy Neesham missing out after a Mitchell Marsh delivery hit him in the arm during the Canberra match.
Matt Henry will also sit out the match, with paceman Lockie Ferguson and Henry Nicholls taking their places.
Australia: Steve Smith (capt), Pat Cummins, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, George Bailey, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Mitchell Starc, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell (12th man).
New Zealand: Kane Williamson (capt), Trent Boult, Colin de Grandhomme, Lockie Ferguson, Martin Guptill, Tom Latham, Colin Munro, Henry Nicholls, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, BJ Watling, Matt Henry (12th man).
