Maddinson should keep his chin up

It is going to be a tough few days heading into the Boxing Day clash this week for Nic Maddinson, however he should keep his chin up.

Now I know 5 runs from three innings isn’t something to be proud of, but remember he has done something all young cricketers dream of – and that’s putting on that baggy green cap.

By playing two Tests he has also accomplished something around 70 others have not been able to do, and that’s not be a one-Test wonder.

With him being only 24 years of age, he has plenty of time to regain a spot in the team.

Now he hasn’t been dropped yet but after three poor innings and a pretty disappointing drop on Saturday against Pakistan, it’s highly unlikely he will be participating on Boxing Day.

However, we have to remember that even Sir Donald Bradman, Shane Warne, Brad Haddin and Ricky Ponting have been dropped at some point in their careers. I don’t think I need to go into their credentials, just their names can service as acceptable examples of players having great Test careers despite being cut from the team.

So we have to remember that Maddinson was good enough to be picked by selectors in the first place, so they had faith in his abilities at some point, it’s just now up to him to restore that faith.

If he is dropped, which we assume he will be, then just go back to New South Wales and the Sydney Sixers, get a heap of runs. I can guarantee, if your form is good enough again, then you will be re-selected.

With cricket in Australia starting to get really busy, there are plenty of opportunities for Maddinson to remind selectors just how much potential he has.
