South Sydney have locked up bullocking prop Tom Burgess until the end of the 2019 NRL season after he signed a one-year contract extension.

Burgess insisting that despite taking a look at playing in the NFL and meeting with the New York Giants, while in London for the Four Nations, he will stay at Redfern with brothers Sam and George, at least for the time being.

His primary interest right now is bringing the 2014 NRL premiers back to relevance, after a disappointing 2016 campaign saw them miss the finals for the first time since 2011.

“It’s been a bit of an up and down year,” Burgess told News Corp Australia.

“We just couldn’t get a win in the middle part of the year. The most positive thing is at the end we got it together and started winning.

“I think we can take that through to next year.

“Mentally, we just couldn’t win. Sometimes teams just get in a rut and you get really close, a lot of games we were close but we had to believe more. We just didn’t have that last year.”

While Burgess will stay at Redfern for now he hasn’t ruled out an attempt at a move to America down the track.

“I’m interested in the game,” Burgess said.

“Definitely if something came up I would have a look at it but I don’t think it would.”
