Rob Horne says the struggling NSW Waratahs have to stop second guessing themselves and start trusting their instincts.
Horne said it had been a tough few days for the Tahs since they surrendered a 17-0 Super Rugby lead to lose at home to the Kings.
Video reviews and frank discussions had identified the major issues they needed to address before playing the Reds in Brisbane on Saturday.
“Just a bit of indecision and not backing that first instinct,” Horne said.
“We’ve seen through viewing and talking to each other that’s definitely a major part of what’s been happening.
“We’re a team that’s got good footballers in it and we just have to back ourselves to do what we want to do in that moment and not think ‘what if that’, or ‘what if this,’ that second guessing hurts you.”
“Playing against a (Reds) team that’s full of very good players up there in a hostile environment, if we don’t back ourselves it’s going to be a tough day.”
Horne backed coach Daryl Gibson who is refusing to fret over the growing speculation over his position generated by a 2-6 record and three straight losses.
“I can’t worry about what’s going to happen in my future, I can’t worry what may happen, i can only control what happens in the present,” Gibson said.
“I’m very firmly focused on making sure we get our performance right.”
The Waratahs have dominated the Reds in recent times, although Queensland are two spots and one one point above fourth-placed NSW on the Australian conference ladder.
