Top class racing at its best across Saturday and Sunday with five Group 1 races to look at with superstars assembled in nearly every one of them. Here is my take on the majors for the weekend.

Randwick
Race Five: Flight Stakes 1600m
Does look a race in two but Champagne Cuddles, if she handles the back up, wins for mine. Her run in the Golden Rose was excellent and she clearly clocked the fastest final 600m of the day, so the mile is no issue.

Alizee the clear danger. Her Tea Rose win was dominant, aided by a lovely patient ride from Glyn Schofield, who got the suck run behind Champagne Cuddles. One More Honey is the knockout chance. Her Tea Rose run, with no luck, was a beauty. She will eat up the mile and is a massive chance if the breaks go her way.

Champagne Cuddles on top, ahead of Alizee, One More Honey and Cellargirl.

Race Seven: TAB Epsom Handicap 1600m
Was keen on Egg Tart, but with her out, it does look an ideal race for Happy Clapper to break the Group 1 tag. This boy has been outstanding right throughout his career and put up a near career best performance last time in the George Main when second to Winx.

Just has to hold that form to probably beat these. If you looked at the prep of Tom Melbourne in isolation, it’s a perfect Epsom campaign, but it’s Tom Melbourne. Can G Boss weave some magic again? Mccreery was good in the George Main also and a fast run mile will suit him. Would love some cushion in the track.

Happy Clapper for me, to beat Tom Melbourne, Mccreery and Foxplay.

Race Eight: The Metropolitan 2400m
It’s time for Antonio Giuseppe to stand up. He’s been threatening to win a major over the last 12 months, but has only placed in one from three attempts. The rise to 2400m and getting back to a handicap are the big ticks and he does get Moreira steering.

Libran is the obvious. Kingston Town win was outstanding and he did it quite comfortably in the end. Just has to contend with the 57kg. Next best is the old boy Who Shot Thebarman who is going really well at the moment and he will make sure they know he’s there once again.

Antonio Giuseppe, over Libran, Who Shot Thebarman and Foundry.

Caulfield
Race Seven: Hyland Race Colours Underwood Stakes 1800m

I think Hartnell wins, but $1.90 is rock bottom for mine. Cummings did talk the horse down big time prior to the Makybe Diva and the horse ran accordingly behind Humidor. He’s clearly the best horse in the race, but I think I’d rather watch him bounce back. I think the only danger is Bonneval.

Her Dato win was outstanding, but the form out of that looks really suspect. That, and whether she is already looking for 2000m+ is a question mark. D-Day for He’s Our Rokkii. He was too bad to be true in the Dato and should get a suck run behind the speed.

Hartnell on top, to beat Bonneval, He’s Our Rokkii and Single Gaze.

Race Eight: Keno Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes 1400m
In terms of the majors, the one I am most keen on comes here in Scales Of Justice. His first up run in the Bobbie Lewis was incredible really considering how much he did wrong yet still attacked the line.

Back around a bend, more tempo, up to 1400m…I’m really keen. Tosen Stardom has the right form next to his name. Just draws nasty out wide and he does need a Group l to secure a stud career post racing. Mr Sneaky was excellent in the Sofitel late and he too will love a fast run 1400m, which is what this should be.

Scales Of Justice for me, ahead of Tosen Stardom, Mr Sneaky and Theanswermyfriend.
