At the 2017 NRL Grand Final, it was Josh Addo-Carr of the Melbourne Storm who scored the first try, coming in the 20th minute.

It was a battle of attrition to start the match, with the first nineteen minutes passing without any points or penalties.

However an electrifying 75m run from Addo-Carr became the first points of the night as he easily outpaced all comers.

The try will be considered a controversial one however, as the Cowboys called for it to be reset as a scrum after two Storm players ran into the referee during the play.

The decision went to the bunker who ruled that it was a try, and the Melbourne Storm were awarded the first four points of the night as a result.

A conversion from Cameron Smith put them up 6-0 in the 21st minute.

Melbourne went on to score the second try of the match shortly after, with Felise Kaufusi crossing the line in the 28th minute.

Another successful conversion from Smith gave the Melbourne Storm a 12-0 lead in the 29th minute.

The Storm added yet another try before the first half was even over, with Billy Slater running over in the 38th minute.

A third accurate conversion from Cameron Smith put Melbourne up 18-0 and they held that margin at the break.
