The match is scheduled to kick-off at 11:30pm (AEDT) on Thursday, October 5 with Syria forced to play their matches outside of national borders thanks to the ongoing war. Instead, they will host the game at the Hang Jebat Stadium, Malacca, Malaysia.

The winner of this two-leg play-off will move onto the inter-confederation battle, taking on a team from Central and Nortern America for the right to play the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

How to watch the match on TV

To watch their coverage however, you will need a valid Foxtel TV subscription.

The other way to watch the match will be through the Nine Network, who have recently picked up simulcasting rights to show all Socceroos games in the run to Russia.
