Not the greatest of results last week for the five bets but ‘In Her Time’ did get the job done impressively in the premiere. I’m looking to bounce back in a big way and sharpen right up, so here are the five bets for the weekend.

Bet 1: Win – Flemington Race 1, No. 11 ‘Sunlight’
It’s hard to be confident about these early two-year-old races but I like what I see with this girl. Looks a real precocious type for Tony McEvoy yard who is bred in the purple being by Zoustar out of the Group l performed mare Solar Charged. Looked outstanding in her Cranbourne trial win, doing everything right and winning under a hold. Keen.

Bet 2: Each way – Flemington Race 2, No. 11 ‘Rellson’
Might be too soon for him, but at $8 I’ll have a look. Promising colt for the Aaron Purcell team who had no luck on debut at Bendigo when hard in the market before getting back in the punters good books at Wangaratta where he was backed as if he was Black Caviar and he won accordingly. Good test here, but on what I’ve seen, he can measure up.

Bet 3: Win – Randwick Race 3, No. 3 ‘Interlocuter’
Anything in black figures appeals to me. He resumed four weeks back over 1400 metres at Rosehill where he was backed as if unbeatable and was first past the post but lost it in the stewards room. Has since trialled and looked very good there. Only bad luck beats him here.

Bet 4: Win – Gold Coast Race 8, No.13 ‘Deer Mountain’
Rises in grade and depth, but I am very keen on this mare for Segenhoe and Toby Edmonds. Had her first run for the stable at this track and distance a couple of Wednesdays back where she was backed strongly and for most of the race, it looked as if it was going to be a hard-luck story. But, Lloyd shoved her into the clear and from the furlong onwards it was painless. Looks progressive and should measure up here.

Bet 5: Win – Morphettville Parks Race 6, No. 7 ‘Nodoubtaboutit’
Should be short, but should be winning. She is a mare in really good form at the moment for the Stokes stable who is three weeks between runs since bolting up at this track and distance where she was ridden arrogantly by Finnegan and the mare won accordingly. I think only bad luck will beat her here.
