In the second game of Round 6 of the NRC, Qld Country take on NSW Country in an all-country state derby. As usual, The Roar will have the game covered with the score updates from 5pm (AEDT).

Queensland Country are sitting equal first on the ladder, but are enjoying the top sport through points differential. Meanwhile, NSW Country are beginning to show some of last year’s form and are pushing to get in the top four.

Under coach Brad Thorn, who has recently been made Reds head coach, Queensland Country have had a very successful season so far. In their most recent outing against the Rising, the Queenslanders dominated the game and won 54-12. They scored eight tries, despite two yellow cards and being starved of the ball.

Filipo Daugunu had a field day on the wing for country, scoring a hat-trick of tries and outclassing his fellow winger, Wallaby Eto Nabuli. With his three tries, Dangunu joins two of his teammates in the top five try scorers of the year, making Queensland’s backline the most dangerous of the competition.

After a rough start to the year, NSW Country are beginning to get the ball rolling. Just in time too. With only four rounds remaining, NSW will need some strong performances to reach the finals. In their last outing, they outmuscled the Sydney Rays in a tight contest, winning 26-17.

Once again, big lock Tom Staniforth got through a mountain of work on both attack and defence. He recorded 30 carries for the game as well as 11 tackles. He will be crucial to a good performance from the NSW Country team.

Prediction
It would be foolish to pick against Queensland Country considering their strong form, especially since they are playing at home. Although NSW’s defensive was very strong last week, Country should run through and make a strong statement for finals.

Qld Country to win: 35-12
