The Overwatch World Cup Finals begin this Saturday, November 4 (AEDT), with Australia facing off against Canada in the second quarterfinal. The match is set to begin at 8:00am (AEDT).
Backed by a raucous home crowd, Australia enjoyed a strong start to the August group stage event in Sydney.
Their first two matches saw them dispatch of both Italy and Portgual comfortably, although on the final day they suffered a 3-1 loss to Sweden and were forced to settle for second place in Group C.
That pit them against Group D champions Japan in the best-of-five Round of 16, with the Aussies pulling off a stunning 3-2 win.
This was the only match in the entire round of 16 to require the full five matches, and was also the only instance of a group runner-up prevailing.
Canada, on the other hand, had a relatively simpler path to the finals.
Playing their qualifiers at the event in Katowice, Poland, the Canucks had no issues swatting aside Singapore and Turkey, although a draw with the also-undefeated Russia saw them play an additional tiebreaker to determine the group winner.
Canada prevailed over last year’s runners-up, before sweeping the Netherlands 3-0 in their Round of 16 clash.
