How good is Derby Day! The pinnacle of the Racing calendar, Derby Day in Victoria kicks off the four day festival of racing, culminating in the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday. It’s a great time for punters all around the country.

As always, the Victoria Derby sees a number of classy horses turn out in what is one of the oldest races in Australia. Join The Roar for a live blog of the race from 3:50pm AEDT.

Prized Icon took the chocolates last year, timing his run to perfection, but who wins the 2017 edition?

For me, it’s a hard race to pick – but there’s quality almost everywhere you look.

Main Stage is a good chance, and should attract some late attention. Aside from being owned by AFL Premiership winner, Dustin Martin, he’s come into his own recently. He won two starts ago in Melbourne, and raced a little limp at Caulfield last start to still sneak into third. With a good ride and the right conditions, he’s a definite chance.

Ace High is all class. He’s won his last two races in Sydney, and has looked in supreme nick in doing so. The trip to Melbourne shouldn’t play too much of a factor, and he will take some beating.

Finally, Weather With You. He won the Geelong Classic the last time he suited up, and will only get better. He’s a very good stayer, and has enough in the legs to kick home late should he see a chance.

Tips
As I’ve already said, it’s a hard race to pick. I think Ace High will be too good, however, with some decent place chances in Greycliffe, Abero and Sully.
