The bets didn’t quite come through at Moonee Valley but I Am Serious and Interlocuter got the job done nicely at Randwick.

Bet 1: Each way, Flemington, Race 1 – Number 11, Octabello
Thought the $12 all in was very good and with Kaonic out, that looks even better now. The Mick Price-trained youngster scored a fab win over 1400m here at the midweeks before racing in the Gothic at Caulfield.

Really, if you backed him like I did, it was just an utter nightmare. He should have won but just had no luck. Fast splits despite being under a hold. He’ll eat up the Flemington mile.

Bet 2: Each way, Flemington, Race 3 – Number 7, Lake Como
Taking a chance on this nippy mare. Lake Como is a very good mare that resumes for the Pat Hyland team after a hot and cold autumn/winter where she was outstanding one run, awful the next. She loves racing down the straight, unbeaten fresh and she looked sharp in a recent jump out.

Bet 3: Each way, Rosehill, Race 3 – Number 4, Pick Me Up
The $7.50 is a great bet on the each way angle. The Tim Martin-trained galloper had really good market support when resuming at Randwick three weeks back. But nothing went right for him at a vital stage and he should have won when a narrow second to Grand Condor. Excellent second-up record and should only improve off the resumption, plus he maps super.

Bet 4: Win, Rosehill, Race 4 – Number 6, Black On Gold
One of the better bets on the program at Rosehill and the $2.70 opening price was very acceptable. He is in career best form.

Brilliant win fresh over the Warwick Farm before racing over 1800m at Randwick last Saturday on a soft track, which he hates, yet still ran home with purpose behind Interlocuter. Firmer ground, home track… he’ll do me.

Bet 5: Win, Rosehill, Race 6 – Number 4, Carzoff
Carzoff can knock off Impavido. The talented French galloper for Chris Waller kicked off his second Australian prep at Doomben three weeks back over 1350m and it was just an utter nightmare if you were on. Got back, near the inside, held up, and was bolting. He probably wins with the right run. If he gets it here, he’s one of the hardest to beat.
