Coach Ange Postecoglou can breathe a sigh of relief with confirmation on Sunday that Tim Cahill would travel to Honduras for the first leg of the Socceroos’ World Cup qualifying playoff.

But Robbie Kruse won’t be available for the game in San Pedro Sula due to a knee knock.

Cahill was cleared of a fractured ankle on Saturday and Football Federation Australia said he would make the long-haul trip to Central America on Monday, a day later that originally scheduled, as the monitoring and rehabilitation process to manage him back to full fitness continues.

Australia’s all-time leading goalscorer was forced from the field in Friday night’s 1-0 A-League loss to Sydney FC after he landed awkwardly in an attempt to hurdle Sky Blues defender Jordi Buijs.

The 37-year-old is no certainty to play but his presence will be a huge boost for the Socceroos, who will be without Kruse for the first-leg.

The attacker will link up with the squad, like suspended duo Mathew Leckie and Mark Milligan, in Sydney ahead of the second leg.
