Longtime Roar expert and sports broadcaster Glenn Mitchell has given his thoughts on the upcoming Ashes series in a preview video for The Roar.

The batting order for both sides has been under the spotlight.

For Australia it comes after the side made plenty of changes, bringing in Shaun Marsh, Tim Paine and Cameron Bancroft at the expense of Matthew Wade, a fifth bowling option and Matt Renshaw.

Bowling might be the key to the Ashes though, with limiting runs and taking wickets the key according to Mitchell, giving Australia the upper hand.

“In the end, batting from either team will only be as effective as the opposition will allow, and that’s where I really believe Australia will win this series,” Mitchell said.

“Already we have seen Starc and Hazlewood in terrific form for New South Wales. Pat Cummins is getting back to the force which saw him selected. Also, Nathan Lyon has had some confidence boosting performances in India and Bangladesh.”

“For mine, it’s this trio of fast bowlers for Australia who will get them over the line.”

“You get the feeling Australia has the opportunity to run through the English batting line-up on several occasions this summer. It may well happen at least once at the Gabba.”

Mitchell also told us that there is a problem for England in that key quicks Stuart Broad and James Anderson haven’t performed well previously in Australia.
