Australia have named an unchanged side for the second cricket Test against England starting Saturday in Adelaide.
Australian captain Steve Smith says there wasn’t any great temptation to alter the XI that won the Ashes opener in Brisbane by 10 wickets.
Smith says he’s challenged his side to repeat its feats from the first Test.
“It’s just about ensuring that we do the basics well … ensuring that we’re on from ball one,” Smith told reporters on Friday.
“Hopefully we can get on top early and take some momentum from the last game.”
While England has questioned Australia’s sledging tactics, Smith said the Australians wouldn’t change their approach.
“It’s an Ashes series, there’s always that banter on and off the field,” he said.
” … We obviously played some really good cricket last week to be 1-0 up so hopefully we can take some momentum.”
Smith said he “definitely wasn’t mocking” England in the post-game press conference after Brisbane when laughing at newcomer Cameron Bancroft’s detailing of being headbutted by English wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow.
But the Aussie skipper said his side was braced for some fresh tactics in Adelaide from the tourists.
“It will be interesting to see whether they change up their tactics …with the pink ball things can happen pretty quickly,” he said.
“It will be interesting to see what sort of things they come up with.
