The Kashima Antlers and Sydney FC meet in the return Asian Champions League clash as the group starts to take shape ahead of the final stages. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 9pm (AEDT).

This is pretty much it for Sydney. Anything less than three points tonight ends their ACL aspirations and even then, a win might still leave them short on points at the end of the home-and-away group stage.

Graham Arnold’s men have been disappointing in this competition so far and despite the undoubted quality of the opposition they have faced, Australia had hoped for more.

The Antlers who were solid last time around and clinically put two goals past the normally stoic Sydney defence, will look to be more aggressive at home as they seek to consolidate a spot at the top of the group and secure a place in the next round.

Sydney might be on a face-saving mission tonight, although stranger things have happened and their leaders will need to step up to produce a performance that brings home a much needed three points.

Even with key personnel back for the Sky Blues, it’s hard to see the visitors creating enough avenues to goal to consistently trouble Kashima.

Prediction
Sydney look tired and below strength and the Japanese will put at least another two past their defences.

Kashima Antlers 2 – Sydney FC 0.
